Sacramental Preparation
At Our Lady of the Assumption School, sacramental preparation is a meaningful and deeply rooted part of each student’s faith journey. These milestones are not simply events, they are transformative experiences that help students grow in their relationship with God and develop a lasting understanding of their Catholic faith. Guided by our dedicated faculty and in close partnership with our parish, students are thoughtfully prepared for the sacraments through classroom instruction, prayer, reflection, and shared experiences within the church.
First Reconciliation & First Holy Communion (Grade 2)
In second grade, students begin preparing for two important sacraments: First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion.
Preparation for First Reconciliation focuses on understanding God’s mercy, forgiveness, and the importance of making thoughtful choices. Students learn how to reflect on their actions, take responsibility, and experience the grace of reconciliation in a supportive and encouraging environment.
As they continue their journey, students prepare for First Holy Communion, where they receive the Eucharist for the first time. Through lessons, prayer, and discussion, they come to understand the significance of the Eucharist as a central part of the Catholic faith.
In the weeks leading up to these special days, students visit the church to practice, ensuring they feel confident, prepared, and at ease. These moments also help build familiarity with the sacred space, making the experience even more meaningful when they celebrate with their families and the parish community.

Confirmation (Grade 8)
In eighth grade, students prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, an important step in their faith journey as they affirm and strengthen their commitment to the Church.
Preparation for Confirmation encourages students to take a more active role in their faith. Through religious instruction, reflection, and meaningful discussion, they deepen their understanding of the Holy Spirit and what it means to live as a committed Catholic in today’s world.
Students also participate in a retreat experience, providing time for reflection, connection, and personal growth as they prepare for this important milestone. As with earlier sacraments, students spend time in the church practicing ahead of the Confirmation Mass. This ensures they feel comfortable and confident, allowing them to fully embrace the significance of the moment.

A Meaningful Partnership
Sacramental preparation at OLA is strengthened by our close partnership with the parish, creating a seamless connection between school and church. Families are an important part of this journey, and each celebration is shared as a joyful and faith-filled community event. Through these experiences, students gain more than knowledge, they develop a deeper sense of belonging, a stronger connection to their faith, and a foundation that will guide them well beyond their years at OLA.
