Working Together to Keep Our School Community Healthy
At Our Lady of the Assumption School, the health and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff are a top priority. We ask families to partner with us by monitoring their children's health and following our illness guidelines to help prevent the spread of contagious illnesses within our school community.
When students are healthy and present, they are better able to learn, participate, and thrive. Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and healthy environment for everyone.
Reporting an Absence
If your child will be absent due to illness, please notify the Nurse's Office before the start of the school day.
Timely communication helps us support your child and maintain accurate attendance records.
When Should My Child Stay Home?
Students should remain home if they are experiencing symptoms that may indicate a contagious illness or would prevent them from fully participating in the school day.

Allergy Awareness
OLA is a Nut-Free School
Our Lady of the Assumption School is committed to providing a safe environment for students with food allergies. Because several students have life-threatening allergies, OLA maintains a nut-free campus.
Peanuts, tree nuts, and products containing nuts are not permitted at school under any circumstances. This policy applies to:
We ask all families to carefully read ingredient labels before sending food items to school. Please do not send items that:
To help ensure student safety, homemade baked goods are not permitted for classroom celebrations or shared events.

When Should My Child Stay Home?
Students should remain home if they are experiencing symptoms that may indicate a contagious illness or would prevent them from fully participating in the school day.
Please keep your child home if they have:
- A fever of 100°F or higher
- Vomiting or diarrhea
- A persistent cough that interferes with learning
- Symptoms of a contagious illness
- An undiagnosed rash
- Any condition that requires rest and recovery at home
Returning to School After Illness
Students must be:
- Fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication
- Free from vomiting or diarrhea for at least 24 hours
- Well enough to participate in normal classroom and school activities
- The school nurse reserves the right to recommend additional clearance from a healthcare provider when necessary.
Health Records & Required Documentation
Massachusetts state regulations require schools to maintain current health records for all students.
Before attending school, families must provide:
- Current physical examination records
- Up-to-date immunization records
- Any required medical forms related to allergies, asthma, medications, or other health conditions
- Students may not attend school until all required health documentation has been submitted and reviewed.
Medication Policy

Families must provide:
- Medication in its original pharmacy-labeled container
- A completed Medication Administration Consent Form
- Physician authorization when required
Students should never bring medication to school independently unless specifically authorized by the School Nurse and physician.
